Come join us for another great day of\u00a0<\/span>s<\/strong>tudent and faculty talks<\/strong>, a\u00a0<\/span>panel<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>featuring industry leaders in microbial science, and plenty of\u00a0<\/span>social time to network and chat<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>with fellow microbial scholars!<\/span><\/p>\n

Our keynote speaker this year is Dr. Sylvie Estrela of Texas A&M University.<\/b><\/p>\n

\nSylvie is an Assistant Professor in the <\/span>Department of Nutrition<\/a>\u00a0at Texas A&M University and an Associate Member of the Texas A&M\u00a0<\/span>AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health through Agriculture (IHA)<\/a>. Before joining TAMU, she was a research scientist in KC Huang\u2019s lab at Stanford University, where she investigated how gut bacteria and bacterial communities respond to nutrient perturbations. She received her PhD from the University of Edinburgh working in Sam Brown’s group, followed by a postdoc at the University of Washington in Ben Kerr’s lab. Her research focused on using mathematical models and computer simulations to understand how interactions between individual species shape microbial community function, spatial organization, and the emergence of microbial interdependencies. She then moved to Yale as a postdoc in Alvaro Sanchez lab, where she combined experiments and modeling to understand how microbial communities assemble in simple nutrient environments.<\/span><\/p>\n
