{"id":6464,"date":"2024-04-08T11:49:34","date_gmt":"2024-04-08T15:49:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metit\/?page_id=6464"},"modified":"2026-03-25T15:17:40","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T19:17:40","slug":"laptops","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metit\/services\/hardware\/laptops\/","title":{"rendered":"Laptops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MET IT provides major support for all BU-provisioned laptops for faculty and staff.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h4>Support Policy<\/h4>\n<p>MET IT is responsible for the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Set up of new laptops with employees<\/li>\n<li>Providing and tracking loaner laptops and chargers for employees<\/li>\n<li>Upgrade BU-provisioned laptops on a 4-year cycle<\/li>\n<li>Installation and configuration of software on BU-provisioned laptops<\/li>\n<li>Troubleshooting and repairing BU-provisioned laptops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong style=\"color: red\">NOTE:<\/strong> MET IT doesn&#8217;t repair out-of-warranty devices.<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dt><strong>Personal Devices<\/strong><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>MET IT is not responsible for any support related to personal devices, regardless of BU affiliation. This setup will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First time log in<\/li>\n<li>Set up of key and required software<\/li>\n<li>Defining default applications<\/li>\n<li>Any special configurations based on job requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><strong>Existing Employees<\/strong><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>Existing employees will be eligible for a new laptop every 4 years (based on warranty). A request for the new machine can be submitted through our <a href=\"\/metit\/services\/hardware\/request\/\">Hardware Request form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Employees are <em>required<\/em> to return their old machine for recycling\/redeployment on the date that they receive their new machine.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt><strong>Exiting Employees<\/strong><\/dt>\n<dd>\n<p>Exiting employees are <em>required<\/em> to return their machine to MET IT on or before their final day of work.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<hr\/>\n<h4>Loaner Laptops and Chargers<\/h4>\n<p>MET IT has a small collection of loaner laptops and chargers for our employees. Employees can <a href=\"\/metit\/services\/hardware\/request\">request loaner devices<\/a> for the following circumstances:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For a class, meeting, or event<\/li>\n<li>For devices forgotten at home<\/li>\n<li>For business trips<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>MET IT will also provide loaner laptops to clients who require repairs on their main laptop.<\/p>\n<p>All loaner devices should be returned promptly once they are no longer needed.
