{"id":5525,"date":"2018-11-07T10:29:22","date_gmt":"2018-11-07T15:29:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/?page_id=5525"},"modified":"2018-11-07T10:30:35","modified_gmt":"2018-11-07T15:30:35","slug":"gustavo-khouri","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/alumni-profiles\/gustavo-khouri\/","title":{"rendered":"Gustavo Khouri"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment5529\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment5529\" style=\"width: 409px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-2-399x300.png\" alt=\"Catching a Boston Red Sox baseball game at world-famous Fenway Park.\" width=\"399\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-2-399x300.png 399w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-2-768x577.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-2.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment5529\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Catching a Boston Red Sox baseball game at world-famous Fenway Park.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Upon arriving in Boston in September 2017, Gustavo Khouri of S\u00e3o Paolo, Brazil remembers, \u201cI didn\u2019t know anyone there and was insecure about how my experience was going to be.\u201d But one week later, Boston University Metropolitan College (BU MET) International hosted a pizza party to welcome new students that happened to fall on his birthday. \u201cEverybody sang happy birthday, and I met some valuable friends,\u201d he remembers. \u201cAfter this event, I realized that I was going to have an outstanding time in Boston.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During Khouri\u2019s final year of study at <span><a href=\"https:\/\/maua.br\/\">Instituto Mau\u00e1 de Tecnologia<\/a><\/span>, where he got a bachelor\u2019s in civil engineering, he interned for Rudge Ramos Construction Company, which then hired him full-time upon graduation. \u201cAfter one semester working there,\u201d he says, \u201cI realized that I was missing some important knowledge in business strategy, finance and marketing.\u201d Soon after, Khouri decided to do a master\u2019s in business administration at <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insper.edu.br\/\">Insper<\/a><\/span>, where he learned about the opportunity to study abroad at BU MET.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment5527\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment5527\" style=\"width: 543px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-533x300.png\" alt=\"Exploring the Halloween tourist attractions in Salem, Mass.\" width=\"533\" height=\"300\" class=\"wp-image-5527 size-medium\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-533x300.png 533w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu.png 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment5527\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Exploring the Halloween tourist attractions in Salem, Mass.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhat I found out really pleased me,\u201d Khouri explains. \u201cThe experience of studying abroad in the United States, in an amazing University, with great professors, with students from all around the world and with a remarkable program, made me choose to pursue my graduate certificate at BU. Moreover, the idea of doing an internship in Boston, in an area related to what I studied that could really contribute to my professional goals, made me decide to go after the advanced graduate certificate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of the four classes Khouri took to complete a graduate certificate in international business management during his first semester at BU MET, his favorite was enterprise risk management. \u201cI learned the elements of risk assessment and crisis response,\u201d he says, in relation to real world occurrences. \u201cThis made me realize the importance of this class, and that I was going to use what I learned in my professional life.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment5528\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment5528\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-1-400x300.png\" alt=\"Hanging out with fellow BU MET International students.\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"wp-image-5528 size-medium\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-1-400x300.png 400w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-1-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2018\/11\/bu-1.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment5528\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hanging out with fellow BU MET International students.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The following semester, Khouri was placed in an internship at the International Entrepreneurship Center (IEC) through BU MET\u2019s advanced graduate certificate program. He worked with people from different countries, doing market research and analyzing business strategies and financial models. Since returning to Brazil, Khouri has resumed his studies at Insper and continued working for Rudge Ramos Construction Company, where he applies his newly acquired skill set to working with clients in order to help them be more profitable while reducing risk.<\/p>\n<p>On a personal note, Khouri has also taken up running, and is training for a half-marathon at Disney World in January.\u00a0 \u201cI intend to continue my training, improve my times and run some marathons around the world,\u201d he states. Reflecting on his time at BU, Khouri adds, \u201cI learned a lot about business management, knowledge that will contribute to my professional success.
