When asked about his long- and short-term career goals, he affirms he wants to \u201cgrow the biggest digital media [source] for biotech worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hemme and co-founder Joachim Eeckhout, both of whom studied bioengineering in Paris, were frustrated with the lack of comprehensive coverage of the biotech scene in France, so they started their own blog. After Hemme returned from studying at Boston University (BU) for a year with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/programs\/graduate\/innovation-entrepreneurship-graduate-certificate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graduate Certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship<\/a>, he and Eeckhout decided to scale their blog to the whole of Europe.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hemme, Labiotech.eu gets <a href=\"http:\/\/labiotech.eu\/labiotech-visitors-traffic-growth-media-startup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">over 40,000 visitors<\/a> per month. They\u2019ve raised their first round of capital, he says, and their team is comprised of \u201cnine highly motivated people.\u201d As the startup\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, Hemme says he spends most of his time managing content and marketing the business, among other things.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment6357\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment6357\" style=\"width: 617px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/metinternational\/files\/2021\/09\/C08IOsGXcAA0w3J-607x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"607\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2021\/09\/C08IOsGXcAA0w3J-607x300.jpg 607w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2021\/09\/C08IOsGXcAA0w3J-768x380.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2021\/09\/C08IOsGXcAA0w3J.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 607px) 100vw, 607px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment6357\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">According to Hemme, the Labiotech.eu team is made up of &#8220;nine highly motivated people.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe are preparing our international expansion right now,\u201d says Hemme, \u201cas we want to cover the American market as well. We might have an office in Boston sometime soon.\u201d Labiotech.eu was just nominated for the <a href=\"http:\/\/labiotech.eu\/labiotech-nominated-with-most-influential-media-at-mediscience-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mediscience award<\/a> for best European biotech commentator of the year. \u201cI\u2019m extremely proud of such recognition,\u201d Hemme says, \u201cand our team deserves it, as they worked very hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hemme fondly remembers the year he spent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/academics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">studying at BU<\/a>. \u201cIt was a wonderful time. I met with great people, had very rich classes and got in touch with the American culture \u2018from inside.\u2019\u201d He continues, \u201cOne reason I came to Boston was for its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.betaboston.com\/news\/2016\/03\/17\/how-cambridge-became-the-life-sciences-capital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">biotech ecosystem<\/a>, [which is] the largest in the world. I met with awesome people in the industry [who] I&#8217;m still in contact with regularly, and this increased my experience in the field a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During his time at BU, Hemme spent three months doing a <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/118113955\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">video tour<\/a> of Boston-based biotech companies. He met with some of the most well-regarded local biotech CEOs and startup founders. According to Hemme, this was a truly unique experience that motivated him to achieve great things with his own startup.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment6355\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment6355\" style=\"width: 491px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/metinternational\/files\/2021\/09\/C08IOrNWIAACASe-571x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"481\" height=\"253\" class=\"wp-image-6355 \" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2021\/09\/C08IOrNWIAACASe-571x300.jpg 571w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metinternational\/files\/2021\/09\/C08IOrNWIAACASe.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment6355\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hemme hopes to make his company the leading biotech media source in the world.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of Hemme\u2019s favorite classes at BU\u2019s Metropolitan College was \u201cThe Innovation Process: Developing New Products and Services,\u201d taught by <a href=\"\/met\/faculty\/full-time\/barry-unger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Professor Barry Unger<\/a>, who he describes as \u2018awesome.\u2019 \u201cHe has a deep knowledge in building companies and bringing innovation to the market,\u201d explains Hemme. \u201cI&#8217;m still in touch with him, and [the class] was a great source of inspiration for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like many MET International alumni, Hemme still keeps in touch with his BU classmates on a regular basis, meeting up with them in person when he travels or chatting by Skype.
