On Monday, September 29, representatives from Tesla automotive visited Boston University\u2019s Metropolitan College to meet with students and discuss career prospects and the hiring process within the company, specifically within the supply chain field.<\/p>\n

With BU MET Director of Student Career Development<\/a> Sandra Sylvestre acting as host of the lunchtime event at 1010 Commonwealth Avenue, the Tesla team offered the crowded room of students, many of whom will soon be graduating with their Master of Science in Supply Chain Management<\/a>, insights as to how they might get their r\u00e9sum\u00e9s seen by Tesla\u2019s hiring managers. They also lent perspectives on best practices in applying at the company, even offering that these kinds of networking events are intended to connect standout prospects with recruiters. Real humans read the r\u00e9sum\u00e9s, students were assured, looking out for \u201cevidence of excellence\u201d in each application\u2014a kind of logline summarizing one\u2019s qualifications.<\/p>\n

Laura McIntosh, a BU alum who has been with Tesla for a decade and is now its director of energy supply chain, explained the company\u2019s mission to accelerate the world\u2019s transition to renewable energy. Visits like this one, she explained, are fundamental to the company\u2019s goals of hiring top-flight staff. Not only does Tesla seek to hire the best talent, but they also go to lengths to retain them by often permitting people to interchange roles within the organization, remaining fresh and intellectually engaged.<\/p>\n

During the question-and-answer section, Associate Professor Canan Gunes Corlu<\/a> asked the Tesla team about the importance of networking, which, they agreed, was best to start as soon as possible. Internships are invaluable, they concurred, as evidence of professionalism, capability, and reliability. Finally, students were told that Tesla does sponsor visas for recent graduates.<\/p>\n
