Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, Latin American Studies Program, and Initiative on Cities co-sponsored the event \u201cLatin American Urban Experiences: Crisis, Creativity, and Renewal.\u201d Held on April 19, 2014, and organized by Pardee Faculty Fellows Susan Eckstein and Enrique Silva\u2014who is also assistant professor of city planning and urban affairs at MET\u2014the event featured faculty and student panel presentations on life in Latin American cities. Using highway development in Chile as an example, Silva spoke about the ways strategic city planning impacts life in large urban areas. The event concluded with comments from former Boston mayor Thomas Menino, co-director of BU\u2019s Initiative on Cities.<\/p>\n<div style=\"border-bottom: 1px solid #D8DDDD;margin-bottom: 2em\"><\/div>\n<h2>MET Research Colloquium\u2014Spring 2014:<br \/>\nAnalytics at BU MET<\/h2>\n<h3>April 17, 2014<\/h3>\n<p>The Spring 2014 MET Research Colloquium focused on MET progress and plans in analytics. <a href=\"\/met\/bigdata2014\/speakers\/#zlateva\">MET faculty Dr. Tanya Zlateva<\/a><em>, Dr. <\/em><a href=\"\/met\/bigdata2014\/speakers\/#banasiewicz\">Andrew Banasiewicz<\/a><em>, Dr. Suresh Kalathur, Dr. <\/em><a href=\"\/met\/bigdata2014\/speakers\/#zlatev\">Vladimir Zlatev<\/a>, and Dr. <a href=\"\/met\/bigdata2014\/speakers\/#schudy\">Robert Schudy<\/a><em> <\/em>made brief presentations on analytics in web, marketing, risk, and business,<b> <\/b>followed by thought-provoking discussions. The college administration also reiterated the importance of analytics as an academic initiative at MET.<b> <\/b><\/p>\n<div style=\"border-bottom: 1px solid #D8DDDD;margin-bottom: 2em\"><\/div>\n<h2>25 Years of Culinary Arts\u2014Celebrated<\/h2>\n<h3>March 25, 2014<\/h3>\n<p>Founded by Julia Child and Jacques, P\u00e9pin Boston University\u2019s Certificate Program in the Culinary Arts has matriculated many chefs, food writers, and cooking enthusiasts. Several chef-instructors\u2014who are also locally and nationally known\u2014dished up mouthwatering meals, such as seared scallops, mushroom risotto, spiced lamb loin, and Grand Marnier souffl\u00e9. Guests watched as the chefs cooked and shared their experiences regarding the Culinary Arts program.
