You will receive guidance on the appropriate procedure for the request, including any necessary documentation and estimated timeline: <a href=\"mailto:kimrich@bu.edu?Subject=Pre-submission consultation request\">Request a meeting.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Department Review &amp; Approval<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proposals must be approved by the Department Chair\/Head as well as the faculty in the department. The Department should also examine what impact the changes will have on other programs within the Department or college and how they will address these issues.<\/li>\n<li>New programs and program revisions that include courses from other departments must also obtain faculty approval from the department that hosts the course, even if the home department previously approved the inclusion of the course in the last version of the curriculum.<\/li>\n<li>Any new courses that will be created with the proposal require approval as well. A syllabus and APC New Course Proposal Template must be provided for each new course.<\/li>\n<li>Courses that are being renumbered require an updated syllabus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Academic Policy Committee (APC) Review &amp; Approval<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/faculty-staff\/committees-meetings\/academic-policy-committee\/\">Submit your proposal<\/a> at least <strong>one week in advance of the next scheduled APC meeting<\/strong>. You must submit required eCAP documents, syllabi, and any other supporting documents via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/faculty-staff\/forms\/apc-proposal-submission\/\">proposal submission<\/a> form to be scheduled for a proposal defense.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dean&#8217;s Review &amp; Approval<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Dean\u2019s office will work with the faculty lead to ensure all required documentation is complete and polished. Once the documents are finalized, the Dean will review for final approval.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electronic Curricular Review Process (eCAP) submission<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Dean\u2019s office will submit approved documents through eCAP. The level of approval is based on the extent of the proposal. proposals are typically reviewed by the Office of the Provost,\u00a0Global Programs (if applicable), the consultative body, the Undergraduate Academic Programs and Policies (UAPP) or the Graduate Academic Programs and Policies (GAPP) committees, and the University Council. After university approval, the Dean\u2019s office works with the Office of the Registrar to finalize any programmatic details.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Launch<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Dean&#8217;s office will initiate the launch with the hosting department, marketing, and the admissions team to execute the proposal. Items that will be determined during the launch phase are the timing of the launch of the student application, website &amp; marketing material updates, as well as staff, faculty, and student notifications, etc.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h5 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Establishing a New Non-Required Course<\/h5><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/met\/files\/2025\/09\/NonRequiredCourse-e1758721569461-1024x140.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"70\" class=\"wp-image-96518 alignnone\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/files\/2025\/09\/NonRequiredCourse-e1758721569461-1024x140.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/files\/2025\/09\/NonRequiredCourse-e1758721569461-636x87.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/files\/2025\/09\/NonRequiredCourse-e1758721569461-768x105.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/files\/2025\/09\/NonRequiredCourse-e1758721569461-1536x211.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/files\/2025\/09\/NonRequiredCourse-e1758721569461.png 1984w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Department Review<\/strong><br \/>\nFaculty submits a new course proposal for review and approval by the Department Chair\/Head and faculty.<br \/>\nThe proposal should include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>APC New Course Proposal Form<\/li>\n<li>Budget proposal for course with special requirements such as international travel, extended laboratory requirements, online material development, etc.<\/li>\n<li>CV of the faculty developing and teaching the course if the faculty is external to MET<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>APC Review<\/strong><br \/>\nThe proposal should be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/faculty-staff\/committees-meetings\/academic-policy-committee\/\">submitted to the APC<\/a> to be scheduled for an upcoming meeting. The Chair of the APC will invite the faculty proposing the course and\/or a department representative to present the proposal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dean&#8217;s Office Review<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Dean or Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs reviews the proposal for final approval and sign-off. BU Virtual has limited bandwidth each semester for developments and updates, and your adherence to the submission deadline is imperative for planning.<\/p>\n<p>For each proposal, the Dean\u2019s office will coordinate with BU Virtual to finalize the planned term launch. The final timeline of the course development will be confirmed upon the approval of the proposal.
