Prospective students will engage with our Admissions &amp; Enrollment Services team, which conducts all recruitment efforts and collaborates with MET Marketing on digital marketing and lead generation. Upon metrication, the Enrollment &amp; Student Success office works closely with academic department faculty and administrators to provide academic advising, proactive communication strategies, retention efforts, specialized student support, and career advising. A dedicated in-house data analytics team provides metrics and insights that inform strategy and performance measurement across all operational areas.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Academic Standing<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>At the end of Spring, Fall, and Summer Term, Department administrators must review the academic progress of all registered students in the department to determine their academic standing. Students who are not in good academic standing must be placed on academic probation. Students already on academic probation must be reviewed to determine whether they should be removed from probation or dismissed from their program of study.<\/p>\n<p>Templates &amp; guidance for academic standing review: <a href=\"https:\/\/bushare.sharepoint.com\/:w:\/r\/sites\/GRP-MET-Enrollment\/ESS%20Files\/Graduate%20Student%20Success%20Steering%20Committee\/Academic%20Standing\/Academic%20Standing%20Templates.docx?d=wa26835c84c5e4c158743638be7772d7b&amp;csf=1&amp;web=1&amp;e=kJ3QCo\">Academic Standing Templates.docx<\/a> (access restricted to department administrators)<\/p>\n<p>All graduate students newly placed on probation are required to meet with their academic advisor within two weeks of receiving notification of their probation status. During that meeting, they will need to complete an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/current-students\/academic-policies-procedures\/academic-plan-of-action\/\">Academic Plan of Action<\/a>. This plan will ensure students are aware of the support structure available to them and clearly review the stipulations of their probation and related policies.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Advising<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Every graduate student is assigned two advisors for the duration of their program:\n<ul>\n<li>The<strong> Graduate Program Advisor<\/strong> is a faculty member in the academic department who provides academic support, advice on course selection, research opportunities, industry preparation, and more.<\/li>\n<li>The<strong> Academic Advisor<\/strong> is a professional staff member in the academic department to help with the logistical aspects of a student\u2019s studies, such as academic policy, registration processes, degree progress and graduation processing, and University compliance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Advisor(s) will be listed within the \u201clookup student\u201d function in MyBU: On the landing page Dashboard under the Advisors header. This allows for timely, individualized support and intervention for multiple types of concerns, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Academic Concerns<\/li>\n<li>Personal or Wellbeing Concerns<\/li>\n<li>Other Concern<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Faculty\u2019s submission of an Action Item triggers an email alert to the student\u2019s assigned academic advisor. The email will prompt an advisor to log into MyBU Student and review details of the Action Item so they can determine the appropriate outreach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong> Action Items are not confidential. Although Action Items are not visible to students in MyBU Student, they are part of the student\u2019s official record and thus the student could request access through the University Registrar (FERPA).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you have immediate safety concerns, please contact BUPD at 617-353-2121.\u200b<\/li>\n<li>If you are concerned that a student may need urgent mental health support, contact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/mental-health\/resources-to-help-others\/faculty-staff\/\">Counseling &amp; Psychiatric Services (CAPS)<\/a>.\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Threats or acts of violence should be reported to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/terrierscare\/share-a-concern\/\">https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/terrierscare\/share-a-concern\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Action Items vs. MET Student Report Form:\u200b\n<ul>\n<li>Use Action Items for any student currently enrolled in a course you&#8217;re teaching\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/faculty-staff\/forms\/met-student-report-form\/\">MET STUDENT REPORT FORM<\/a> when: \u200b\n<ul>\n<li>Student is in your class but they have no academic advisor assigned\u200b<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;re not the student&#8217;s current instructor in a course\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Mentoring relationships, past students, research assistants, etc.\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Staff need to report concern<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Mailing Lists<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<p>Mailing Lists are a convenient way of sending emails to many people at MET and Boston University. At MET, we have several options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MET IT Distribution List \u2013 Best for multi-departmental, affiliation based, or location based communications.<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Outlook Contact List \u2013 Best for small and specific communication.<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Teams Group Email \u2013 Best for departmental communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, BU IS&amp;T offers two services designed for mass email beyond MET College:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/cccs\/email\/broadcast\/\">Broadcast Email<\/a>: Send an email to a large segment of Boston University Community<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/cccs\/email\/mailing-lists\/majordomo\/\">Majordomo Mailing List<\/a>: A list manager system that can be controlled via email commands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/metit\/services\/collab\/email\/lists\/\"><button class=\"button\">Mailing List Hub<\/button><\/a><br \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Faculty &amp; Facilitator Textbooks<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Department administrators are responsible for assisting faculty and facilitators in ordering desk copies for classes, as needed.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span>BU Bookstore is the source for all course materials. On campus instructors must confirm their textbook selection prior to the start of the semester. Online course resources are confirmed by BUV and sent to the BU bookstore two months in advance of term launch. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Courses using First Day the textbook access is automatic to anyone enrolled in the course as instructor so no additional steps are needed to get them access to required First Day books.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Online facilitators can review the booklists available on the course syllabus. Those who need copies of the texts will contact the academic department with their order request.<\/li>\n<li><span>The academic department will obtain the resources and send them to faculty or facilitators. Facilitators are only provided materials that faculty mark as <strong><em>required<\/em> <\/strong>for the course. We<strong> do not<\/strong> provide <strong><em>recommended<\/em><\/strong> textbooks. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Tips on ordering:\n<ul>\n<li><span>Some books are available through the library<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>You may explore desk copy options directly from publishers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>You may purchase the materials from Amazon through Guided Buying. For digital content, you can use the \u201cBuy for others\u201d feature to purchase the book and send it to the facilitator.
