Both Boston University employees and non-employees are eligible to receive a small honorarium payment for this service contingent upon securing proper MET approvals and furnishing the required taxpayer documentation as explained below.<\/p>\n<p>The MET Office of the Dean has introduced a new web-based system for submitting approval requests to pay guest speakers an honorarium.<\/p>\n<p>Note for Summer Term honoraria requests please contact: sumadmin@bu.edu (do not use the App below).<\/p>\n<p>Please use this App for any new requests:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Full Time Faculty and Staff: <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.powerapps.com\/play\/e\/71a7908a-3524-426c-ad83-18cb87455f6a\/a\/d7f1faa6-9bca-4589-8c3a-f7d1b0c972d8?tenantId=d57d32cc-c121-488f-b07b-dfe705680c71\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Honorarium Electronic Request App for Full Time Faculty and Staff<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Part Time Instructors please use the following link: <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/r\/zF5uLSZJuD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Honorarium Electronic Request App for Part Time Instructors<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>MET Honoraria Request Guidelines<\/h2>\n<p>All guests must be included in the course syllabus which has been submitted for review and approval by the MET Office of the Dean <u>prior<\/u> to the start of each semester.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The number of speakers is limited to 3 per course unless previously approved by the Dean\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Honorarium payment amounts should follow these general guidelines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 Hour Lecture: \u00a0$50<\/li>\n<li>2 Hour Lecture: $100<\/li>\n<li>3 Hour Lecture: $150<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional compensation will be considered if supported in the written justification request (see below).<\/p>\n<p>The Honorarium Electronic Request App will guide you through most requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Please avoid indicating the service involves \u201cteaching\u201d as such duties are designated for the course instructor of record only.<\/p>\n<p>Please see the following regarding items you are required to upload to the App. Do not submit your request until all required documents are uploaded:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dean-approved syllabus.<\/li>\n<li>Letter of invitation <u>or<\/u> marketing materials (event brochure\/flyer\/program).<\/li>\n<li>At least one of the two items above must include both the <strong><u>full name<\/u><\/strong> of the honoraria recipient and the <strong><u>date when services were provided<\/u><\/strong>. Otherwise, Accounts Payable will not accept our payment request.<\/li>\n<li>Memo to the MET Sr. Assoc. Dean for Academic Affairs on BU letterhead describing the engagement and qualifications of the speaker.<\/li>\n<li>Written request justification.<\/li>\n<li>If honoraria recipient is a Foreign National, Accounts Payable requires a separate memo <strong><u>on BU letterhead<\/u><\/strong> that states whether they were in the USA at the time services were provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Important<\/u><\/strong>: Please do not include any sensitive information (such as SSNs) in any field in the App, or in any documents uploaded. No tax-related documents such as W-9 or W-8 should be requested from the honoraria recipient until <u>after<\/u> the honoraria request has been fully approved and signed off by the MET Sr. Assoc. Dean.
