{"id":65231,"date":"2020-09-11T09:17:19","date_gmt":"2020-09-11T13:17:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/?page_id=65231"},"modified":"2026-02-12T13:03:52","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T18:03:52","slug":"boston-medical-center-employee-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/admissions\/financial-aid\/scholarships\/boston-medical-center-employee-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Boston Medical Center Employee Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019re eligible for benefits as an employee at Boston Medical Center (BMC), Boston University\u2019s Metropolitan College offers a special scholarship that can help bring your education objectives within reach.<\/p>\n<p>The BMC Employee Scholarship provides a 50 percent reduction on tuition and can be applied to Metropolitan College\u2019s wide variety of<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/programs\/\">programs<\/a> in areas such as information technology, administrative studies, management studies, biomedical laboratory and clinical sciences, bachelor\u2019s degree completion, and many others.<\/p>\n<h2>Eligibility Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Benefits-eligible Boston Medical Center employees who work 24 hours per week or more can enroll in undergraduate or graduate Metropolitan College courses on the Boston University<span>\u00a0<\/span>Charles River Campus or Medical Campus with a 50 percent reduction in tuition. The scholarship only applies to Metropolitan College courses held at the Charles River Campus and Medical Campus, and excludes online programs and corporate sites. Scholarship awards do not apply to registration fees, laboratory fees, or textbooks.<\/p>\n<h2>Financial Resources<\/h2>\n<p>Other financial resources for BMC employees include BMC Tuition Reimbursement and the 1199 SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, please contact the BMC HR Service Center at <a href=\"mailto:hrconnect@bmc.org\">HRConnect@bmc.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Scholarship Application Guidelines<\/h2>\n<p>In order to receive the 50 percent tuition scholarship, all the following steps must be completed for each semester you are taking Metropolitan College courses on the Charles River or Medical campuses.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Register:<\/strong> Please register for your courses at least one month before the first day of class. The earlier you register, the smoother your registration process will be. Print and complete a <a href=\"\/met\/files\/2020\/09\/BU_StdRegistrationForm.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">registration form<\/a>, and fax it to: Boston University Office of the University Registrar,\u00a0RE: BMC Employee\/MET student at Charles River Campus;\u00a0<strong>Fax:<\/strong> 617-358-1689;\u00a0<strong>Phone:<\/strong> 617-353-3612. Upon registration, the full tuition for your course(s) will be applied to your student account. Your account will be credited for the 50 percent tuition reduction pending completion of the steps below.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Email <\/strong><a href=\"mailto:metcorp@bu.edu\">metcorp@bu.edu<\/a><strong>: <\/strong>In order to receive the 50 percent BMC Employee Scholarship each semester that you take classes\u2014after you have registered\u2014you must email your BMC employee ID number, BU ID number, and the name and number of the course for which you have registered to <span><\/span><a href=\"mailto:metcorp@bu.edu\">metcorp@bu.edu<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>so your employee status can be verified. Boston University Metropolitan College will bill you for 50 percent of the full price of the course, a small registration fee, and any applicable laboratory fees. To remain eligible for the scholarship, you must pay your bill on time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Monitor Your Student Account Online*:\u00a0<\/strong>Please monitor your student account online, through the MyBU Student Portal, with your Boston University email address and Kerberos password (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/cccs\/email\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">read directions on setting up a BU email account<\/a>). Alternatively, you may call Student Financials at 617-353-2264 to check your balance. The credit to your account should be applied well in advance of the payment deadline. <em>*It is necessary to make payment to the balance of your student account by the payment deadline (found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentfinancials\/your-bill\/payment-deadlines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Financials website<\/a>), so as not to incur any late fees. If your balance still reflects 100 percent of the tuition, arrangements must be made with Student Accounts to pay at least 50 percent of the balance by the payment deadline.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Request Reimbursement from BMC:<\/strong> If you have been approved by BMC Organizational Development and Training or the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund (TUF) for Tuition Reimbursement, be sure that you submit your grade and proof of payment in accordance with OD&amp;T or TUF requirements.
