Urban Grape’s TJ Douglas Interviewed in Yankee Magazine

On October 28, 2021, TJ Douglas—owner of Boston’s South End wine retailer Urban Grape with his wife and business partner Hadley—was featured in Yankee Magazine’s “Weekends with Yankee Q&A.” In the Q&A, TJ discusses his approach to making wine approachable and accessible to those of us who fall between “connoisseur” and “box wine drinkers.” He also explains his effort to make the wine industry more inclusive through initiatives such as the Boston University Food & Wine Urban Grape Wine Studies Award for Students of Color. Founded by the Douglases in 2020, the award is dedicated to fostering greater equity and inclusion in the world of wine by providing students of color with the mentorship, education, and work experience needed to thrive in the field. Award-winners are granted scholarships to the four-level Certificate Program in Wine Studies offered by the Elizabeth Bishop Wine Resource Center at BU’s Metropolitan College—TJ is a program alum—as well as work-study opportunities at Urban Grape.
