Rewarding Excellence—MET Hosts Virtual Award Ceremony

Each year at Commencement, Boston University’s Metropolitan College presents Awards of Excellence to undergraduate and graduate students, part-time faculty, and distinguished alumni. Though this year’s Commencement was postponed until May 2021, a virtual ceremony was held over Zoom on Thursday, October 1, 2020 for the presentation of the awards.

“On-campus activities and courses this past spring were cut short, we finished the spring semester remotely, and there was no formal commencement ceremony in May,” noted Dean Zlateva in her opening remarks to the honorees. “But that does not diminish your accomplishments—on the contrary, I would suggest that you excelled despite unprecedented challenges. We are here, now, to celebrate your academic achievements and contributions to the MET community.”

The following awards were presented:

  • Distinguished Alumni Award for Service to Alma Mater (presented to Trustee of Boston University and member of MET Dean’s Advisory Board Cynthia Cohen by Dean Tanya Zlateva)
  • Roger Deveau Outstanding Part-Time Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching (presented to Department of Administrative Sciences Lecturer Dr. Judith Marley by Associate Dean Lou Chitkushev)
  • Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Study (presented to individuals by Associate Dean Carl Sessa)
  • Awards for Excellence in Graduate Study (presented to individuals by department chairs)

Distinguished Alumni Award winner Cynthia Cohen was the guest speaker for the event, which was followed by a toast to the success of the faculty and students.

Congratulations to all the recipients of the 2020 Metropolitan College Awards for Excellence!
