MET Winemaker Takes Home Silver in International Competition

Jacquelyn Groeper, instructor in BU’s Wine Studies Program and winemaker and co-owner of Artis Winery, was recently honored with a silver medal in the 2020 International Women’s Wine Competition. Held this past June in Sonoma, California, the competition fielded over a thousand entries and was judged by women of the wine industry via double-blind taste tests. The silver medal was awarded to her 2018 Nero d’Avola, a variety which was inspired by her travels through southeastern Sicily.

Also an alumna of the program, Ms. Groeper became an accredited Certified Specialist of Wine following her studies at BU, and later established Artis Winery in Pembroke, MA. Ms. Groeper and Artis’ story is unique in that, unconstrained by their own vineyard, the winery has the freedom to work with both local and west coast growers and select different grape varieties for each vintage. Their philosophy is “to make exceptional wines with minimal intervention.”
