Criminal Justice Master’s Graduate Takes Post as University of Colorado Boulder Public Safety Head

Marlon Lynch (MET’05), who earned his Master of Science in Criminal Justice at BU’s Metropolitan College, was recently appointed associate vice chancellor for public safety at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Lynch assumes the important position after time spent at Michigan State University, where in his role as vice president and chief safety officer he oversaw an increase in security measures following a 2023 mass shooting on campus. Upon his exit, he was praised by MSU officials for his efforts in expanding safety components and initiating policies that looked beyond traditional law enforcement efforts, such as the P.E.A.C.E. Team, the police social worker program he launched which aims to incorporate crime statistics, law enforcement intelligence, and community concerns into incident responses.

In his new role at University of Colorado, will oversee the school’s police department, event and emergency management, flight operations, a new office of threat assessment, and all administrative operations of the public safety division.

Lynch is a former president of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators and the current chair of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
