For students and alumni seeking to expand their professional opportunities, advance their career, or change their vocation, Boston University and Metropolitan College offer a range of resources to support career development.
MET Career Development—in collaboration with BU’s Center for Career Development (CCD) and Alumni & Friends office as well as Metropolitan College’s academic departments and programs—offers career guidance and coaching, programs, and resources to matriculated online and in-person degree-seeking students across MET academic disciplines.
Career Development Appointments
All matriculated online and in-person degree-seeking students at BU MET have an account with Handshake, BU’s online career management system. To schedule an appointment to meet with an experienced career counselor, simply visit Handshake:
- Click on the blue “Boston University Student Login” button.
- Enter your BU email address and Kerberos password.
- Once you are logged in, click on “Career Center” in the upper right of your profile page.
- Then go to “Appointments” and “Schedule a New Appointment,” and choose either “MET Career Development” or “BU Center for Career Development.”
- Appointments can be virtual or in-person.
Types of appointments include:
- Counseling for Early Career Professionals: Meet with a career coach to discuss career selection and goals, and how your values, interests, skills, and personality type can inform your choices.
- Counseling for Career Changers: Meet with a career coach to discuss your career change goals and how your values, interests, skills, and personality type can inform your decisions.
- LinkedIn and Online Presence Coaching: Create or tailor a LinkedIn profile, learn more about how to use LinkedIn, and gain tips on how to manage your professional brand online.
- Interview Coaching: Learn how to best prepare for interviews. You will receive tips, engage in a practice session, and receive feedback on your answers and body language.
- Cover Letter Reviews: Create, tailor, or improve a cover letter.
- Résumé/CV Reviews: Create, tailor, or improve a résumé or CV.
- Internship Search Coaching: Learn about the internship search process and available resources.
- Job Search Coaching: Learn more about conducting and managing a job search using a variety of resources and methods.
- Graduate/Professional School Advising: Discuss graduate or professional school research and selection process, application timelines, and personal statement reviews.
Career Development Programs: Career Fairs, Events, Webinars, and More
Metropolitan College degree-seeking students and alumni are welcome to attend most on-campus events through BU’s Center for Career Development, such as employer information sessions and career fairs. Additionally, each semester, the CCD offers select workshops and webinars that are open to all BU students/alumni. See the Career Events Calendar for upcoming events. Students enrolled in certificate or non-credit/non-degree programs, and graduates of these programs, can also take advantage of a wealth of information and resources available on the CCD website and are welcome to attend in-person events as space allows. Please refer to the CCD web calendar.
