{"id":1419,"date":"2024-07-02T13:59:44","date_gmt":"2024-07-02T17:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/medieval\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=1419"},"modified":"2024-07-02T13:59:44","modified_gmt":"2024-07-02T17:59:44","slug":"deborah-kahn","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/medieval\/profile\/deborah-kahn\/","title":{"rendered":"Deborah Kahn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>Deborah Kahn (Associate Professor) is a specialist in European art and architecture of the Middle Ages with special interests in the historical context of monumental stone sculpture, its iconography and the transmission of images. Her new book <em>The Politics of Sanctity<\/em> (Brepols, 2021) focuses on recently identified sculptures from around the year 1000 that depict the manufacture a new saint in conjunction with images of anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim sentiment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>She did graduate work at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London and subsequently served as a consultant on sculpture and conservation at Canterbury and Lincoln Cathedrals and as an organizer of the exhibition, English Romanesque Art 1066-1200. She is the author of numerous articles, as well as two books <em>Canterbury Cathedral and its Romanesque Sculpture<\/em> (1991) and <em>The Romanesque Frieze and its Spectator<\/em> (editor, 1992).<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"\">\n<p><span class=\"ContentPasted0\">Professor Kahn serves on the advisory board of the<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"ContentPasted0\"><em class=\"ContentPasted0\">Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture in the British Isles<\/em><\/span><span class=\"ContentPasted0\"><span>\u00a0<\/span>and on other international committees. She chairs the department\u2019s<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"ContentPasted0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/haa\/community\/diversity-equity-and-inclusion\/\" id=\"OWA721df64e-3136-34dd-42c9-95b89202e349\" class=\"OWAAutoLink ContentPasted0\" data-loopstyle=\"linkonly\"><span>Diversity &amp; Inclusion committee<\/span><\/a><\/span><span class=\"ContentPasted0\">, serves as faculty advisor to the editors of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ContentPasted0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/haa\/community\/student-organizations\/graduate-student-history-of-art-architecture-association\/sequitur\/\" id=\"OWAbc6354bc-bde5-ff49-c243-3cee5a166d91\" class=\"OWAAutoLink ContentPasted0\"><span>Sequitur<\/span><\/a>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"ContentPasted0\">and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in London. Her current research relates to the models and transmission of the imagery of the Bayeux Tapestry.
