During her undergraduate career, she worked as an EDGE intern and research assistant in Dr. \u00a0Stephen Mayfield\u2019s laboratory. There she genetically engineered algae to produce protein therapeutics and to study the regulatory pathways of the chloroplast genome.<\/p>\n<p>Joanna entered the post-bachelor\u2019s Ph.D. program in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University in the fall of 2012, and is a Ph.D. candidate mentored by Dr. Tyrone Porter.
