Director of Healthy Start Systems, Boston Public Health Commission

The Healthy Start Systems Division Director provides leadership and management oversight for overall implementation of two major and several smaller programs that support the health of pregnant and parenting young families in Boston. The Division has approximately 35 staff and an annual $5 million budget.

  • The Boston Healthy Start Initiative (BHSI), funded through a $1 million/year HRSA grant, aims to decrease the infant mortality rate for Black infants and support other improved birth outcomes. BHSI provides family partner services in contracted partnership with 5 prenatal sites and convenes the Community Action Network (CAN), a coalition of clients, residents and health professionals that works on broader systems change to support healthy birth outcomes.
  • Healthy Baby Healthy Child is a city-funded home visiting program including registered nurses, paraprofessional public health advocates and mental health clinicians who provide skilled nursing, education, case management, and resource coordination to pregnant women and parenting young families.
  • The Division also includes the Welcome Family Program funded by MA Department of Public Health, Healthy Start in Housing, the Father Friendly Initiative, and the BPHC Food Pantry.
