The mission of our department is the discovery and communication of mathematical
\nand statistical knowledge. We conduct world-class research in our areas of strength
\nin mathematics, probability, and statistics. We collaborate synergistically with
\nother disciplines, both intramurally and extramurally, to promote scientific,
\nengineering, medical and societal progress. We educate all Boston University
\nundergraduates in the basic mathematics, probability, and statistics necessary
\nfor their chosen majors, and we cultivate interest in the mathematical sciences
\namong our majors and all other receptive students, including through outreach to
\nthe high school mathematics community. We provide career and job search advice
\nfor all of our majors, and we sponsor program activities including clubs for all
\ninterested students. We support the undergraduate and graduate educational missions
\nof other departments: the Faculty of Computational and Data Sciences; Questrom
\nSchool of Business; Colleges of Communication, Engineering, Fine Arts, and General
\nStudies; Sargent College of Rehabilitation Science; and the Schools of Education,
\nHospitality Administration, Law, Medicine, and Public Health. We prepare our graduate
\nstudents for advanced careers in the mathematical and statistical sciences and
\nfor careers that involve modeling, problem-solving, quantitative skills, and data
