{"id":104222,"date":"2019-09-25T08:55:48","date_gmt":"2019-09-25T12:55:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/library\/?p=104222"},"modified":"2019-09-25T08:55:48","modified_gmt":"2019-09-25T12:55:48","slug":"census-2020-and-statistics-in-schools-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/library\/news\/2019\/09\/25\/census-2020-and-statistics-in-schools-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Census 2020 and Statistics in Schools Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Census is happening again in 2020, and there is a countdown clock on the new <a href=\"https:\/\/2020census.gov\/en\">2020Census website<\/a>.\u00a0 The Census is very important because the data collected then goes into shaping policy for a wide variety of purposes: from federal funding distribution, to state and local redistricting; from community-based programs, to school funding; for use by scholars and research institutions, and for many other purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Another Census effort &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/schools\/\">Statistics in Schools Program<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; offers great activities for different<span>\u00a0grade-levels (elementary grades, middle school, and high school) to get involved with the data collected by the agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/68QA3AXdyts\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Census is also currently offering the <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vkb7nJ5hIt?amp=1\"><em>Opportunity Project Prize Challenge<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 The program will award\u00a0$100K to advance digital products that use open data to solve critical problems for Americans.
