Today's Activity: Cooling and Heating

Description: Today in SCFG, we explored the effects of heating and cooling. Before starting their experiments, we had the girls write their predictions in their journals. The first activity introduced the girls to 'cooling'. They put a bunch of ice in soda bottles and shook it up very quickly. Most of the girls saw that the bottle contracted when it was being shaken.

The second activity involved heating. We heated up a glass bottle and placed it in a container of ice cold water. We then put a balloon over the mouth of the bottle and watched the effects of the warm bottle in the cool water. The girls were excited to see the ballooon slowly inflate right in front of their eyes.

During this session, the girls also decided what they were going to do for their Magic Show next month!
