Drink of the Week: Lassi

Overview

Lassi, also referred to as Lachhi, taak, chhah, is a traditional yogurt/curd-based beverage which originates from the Indian subcontinent. Lassi is a blend of yogurt, water, spices and additional flavoring, most commonly fruit. The most popuolar flavors are Salted Lassi and Lassi infused with Bhang, an liquid derivative of cannabis leaves. Salty lassi is similar to doogh, a cold savory yogurt-based beverage popular across Western Asia and Eastern Europe. On the other hand, modern sweet lassi bears more of a resemblance to milkshakes. That said, due to Lassi's customizable nature, there are many flavors, including:

  1. Mango lassi
  2. Strawberry lassi
  3. Rose water lassi
  4. Citrus lassi
  5. Saffron lassi
