The bones in elephant legs are all pointed downwards, which means they don't have the "spring" required to push off the ground. If an elephant were to jump, the pressure on the knees and ankles could cause injuries. Elephants live a long time, often 50 to 70 years. Stress injuries from jumping would increase arthritis pain and affect mobility.
