His scholarship explores international tax policy, racial equity, and the intersection of tax law with philanthropy and social enterprise. He teaches courses including International Tax, Introduction to Federal Income Taxation, and Taxation and Racial Capitalism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dean is the author of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/global.oup.com\/academic\/product\/racial-capitalism-and-international-tax-law-9780197525975?cc=us&amp;lang=en&amp;\"><span class=\"s2\">Racial Capitalism and International Tax Law: The Story of Global Jim Crow<\/span><\/a><span> (Oxford University Press, 2025) and coauthor of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/book\/45335\"><span class=\"s2\">For-Profit Philanthropy: Elite Power and the Threat of Limited Liability Companies, Donor-Advised Funds, and Strategic Corporate Giving<\/span><\/a><span> (Oxford University Press, 2023), which received the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/members.arnova.org\/news\/Details\/2024-award-recipients-227190\"><span class=\"s2\">ARNOVA Outstanding Book Award<\/span><\/a><span>. His other books include <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.larcier-intersentia.com\/en\/social-enterprise-law-9781839704116.html\"><span class=\"s2\">Social Enterprise Law: A Multijurisdictional Comparative Review<\/span><\/a><span>(Intersentia, 2023) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/book\/10057?searchresult=1\"><span class=\"s2\">Social Enterprise Law: Trust, Public Benefit, and Capital Markets<\/span><\/a><span>(Oxford University Press, 2017). He has also published widely in leading journals, including the NYU Law Review<\/span><span> <\/span><span>and <\/span><span>the <\/span><span>Emory Law Journal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A leading voice in the movement to bring racial equity into tax scholarship and policymaking, Dean\u2019s work has influenced debates from the halls of Congress to the United Nations<\/span><span> and has forced President Biden and the OECD to abandon racially charged rhetoric and imagery<\/span><span>. He has served on the boards <\/span><span>many of the leading voices in US tax policy and public finance, including <\/span><span>the National Tax Association. He has also advised organizations including the Tax Justice Network, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, and the OECD.<\/span><span> <\/span><span>Dean serves on the steering committee of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gdp\/\"><span class=\"s2\">BU\u2019s Global Development Policy Center<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0and is a core Faculty member of <\/span><span>its<\/span><span> Global Economic Governance Initiative. He is an\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ali.org\/members\/member\/475015\/\"><span class=\"s2\">elected member of the American Law Institute<\/span><\/a><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Before joining BU Law, Dean served on the faculty of Brooklyn Law School, where he was Vice Dean and Co-Director of the Dennis J. Block Center for the Study of International Business Law. He has also held visiting positions at NYU School of Law and taught internationally.
