Utley Professor of Health Law, with a joint appointment at BU Law School and BU School of Public Health. She serves as Chair of the BU Health Law Program and is a founding Co-Director of the BU Program on Reproductive Justice. Her research focuses on the intersection of health law and constitutional law, often exploring law as a structural determinant of health. She frequently studies federalism in health care, which includes research on health reform, Medicaid, and the post-<em>Dobbs<\/em> reproductive health landscape. She has more than 100 publications, including two leading health law casebooks (<em>The Law of American Health Care<\/em>, with Elizabeth Weeks (University of Georgia School of Law), Kevin Outterson (Austin B. Fletcher Professor of Law, Executive Director of CARB-X), and Matt Lawrence (Professor of Law, Emory School of Law) (3d edition 2023), and <em>Public Health Law<\/em> (with Mariner, Annas &amp; Ulrich) (4<sup>th<\/sup> ed. 2025)), book chapters, law journal articles, peer-reviewed articles, and commentaries. Her work has been cited in judicial opinions by the U.S. Supreme Court and other federal and state courts as well as by federal and state agencies. She also serves as Research Director for the Uniform Law Commission\u2019s Joint Editorial Board on Health Law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2025, she won the BUSPH Faculty Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarship as well as the \u201cDo\u201d Award for the Department of Health Law, Policy &amp; Management. In 2019, she won an Excellence in Teaching Award at BUSPH. Students have nominated her yearly for the Pettit and the Melton Awards for excellence in teaching at BU Law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Media quotes include the New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, Bloomberg News, Reuters, The Guardian, Huffington Post, Politico, Boston Globe, Newsweek, Stat News, Wall Street Journal, and Univision.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to joining BU, Huberfeld taught courses on constitutional law, health care organizations and finance, bioethical issues in the law, and health law and policy at the University of Kentucky College of Law and College of Medicine. She won the College of Law Duncan Teaching Award in 2008. Previously, she taught at Seton Hall University School of Law and created and directed the health care compliance certification program at SHU Law.
