
{"id":10938,"date":"2015-09-02T10:29:32","date_gmt":"2015-09-02T14:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/peggy-maisel\/"},"modified":"2024-11-06T14:33:08","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T19:33:08","slug":"peggy-maisel","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/peggy-maisel\/","title":{"rendered":"Peggy Maisel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Peggy Maisel\u00a0<\/strong>joined the BU Law Faculty in July 2014 as a clinical professor and as the first associate dean for experiential education for five years overseeing and growing more than 20 clinical and externship programs, in which more than 250 student participate annually.\u00a0 She also works to advance curriculum initiatives, pedagogical practices and academic research that strengthen linkages between the School\u2019s experiential education program and its traditional academic curriculum. She currently teaches Legal Externship courses, Professional Responsibility, and Mediation. She is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Maisel\u2019s career has included leadership positions in both public interest law and the legal academy, having served as dean of the New College of California School of Law and as executive director of The Massachusetts Fair Housing Center. She has co-chaired the International Clinical Committee of the Association of American Law Schools, served on the Board of Governors of the Society of American Law Teachers, and been a steering committee member of the Global Alliance for Justice Education.<\/p>\n<p>From 1996 through 2001, she was first a Fulbright scholar and then an associate professor of law at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, where she co-authored two textbooks,\u00a0<em>Introduction to Law and Legal Skills<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Foundations of South African Law: Critical Issues for Law Students<\/em>. She has consulted on clinical legal education throughout the world, including a full-time semester in Amman, Jordan and as a Visiting Professor at the University of Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining BU Law, Maisel served as a tenured professor of law at Florida International University, where she was the founding director of the law school\u2019s Clinical Legal Education Program since its inception in 2003.
