Course approval at Boston University School of Law is a four-step process:<\/p>\n

  1. Before going to the trouble of a formal submission and the work that that entails, please contact the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and ask if the School has an interest in offering the proposed course. Please direct such inquiries to acadaff@bu.edu<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. If the Associate Dean indicates an interest in the course, the next step is to fill out the form below and to submit the requisite materials. The requisite materials include your CV, a detailed syllabus, and past teaching evaluations, if available.\u00a0 (We do hire first-time teachers, so please do not be discouraged if you do not have teaching experience.)<\/li>\n
  3. If, upon reviewing the materials submitted and the needs of the School, the Associate Dean determines that the School would like to offer your course, the Associate Dean will forward your materials to the JD Curriculum Committee along with the Associate Dean\u2019s recommendation. The JD Curriculum Committee will approve the course, deny it, or request changes.<\/li>\n
  4. If the JD Curriculum Committee approves the course, the final step is the scheduling of your course by the Registrar.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Boston University School of Law courses typically run on a 13-week semester in the fall and spring semester, although non-standard courses, including half semester course, are allowed on an ad hoc basis at the discretion of the JD Curriculum Committee. Course proposals must be submitted by January 20th of the preceding year.\u00a0 The most common types of courses are the following:<\/p>\n

    Seminar (3 credits) \u2013 Typically meets once a week for two hours and requires writing by the students.<\/p>\n

    Course (3 credits) \u2013 Typically meets twice a week for 1 hour 25 minutes a session.<\/p>\n

    Course (4 credits) \u2013 \u00a0Typically meets twice a week for 2 hours per session (with a ten-minute break).<\/p>\n
