Dahlstrom<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, overseeing experiential programming and curricular innovation will be the job of Clinical Professor <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/naomi-m-mann\/\" target=\"_blank\">Naomi M. Mann<\/a>, who took over for Dahlstrom as associate dean for experiential education on July 1. Mann will build on the initiatives created and strengthened by Dahlstrom, who was the second person\u2014after Professor <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/karen-pita-loor\/\" target=\"_blank\">Karen Pita Loor<\/a>\u2014to hold the leadership role since it became a rotating position. Among these initiatives were biannual workshops led by practitioners in the field, exploring issues such as professional identity formation and resistance lawyering. Off campus, Dahlstrom also co-chaired the Association of American Law Schools clinical legal education section in 2025. She built out the community\u2014building on the blocks [Loor] had set in place. It\u2019s been really inspiring.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mann has a long career in legal practice to draw on. Before joining BU Law in 2013, she led an economic advocacy and literacy program for women, represented domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, and worked in the U.S. Department of Education\u2019s Office for Civil Rights, among other roles. At BU Law, she also founded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/experiential-learning\/clinics\/access-to-justice-clinic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Access to Justice Clinic<\/a>, in which students represent poverty law clients of Greater Boston Legal Services in civil litigation and work on access to justice projects in partnership with local or national organizations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bu-pullquote record-block-bu-pullquote is-style-default has-image-focus-center-middle has-secondary-theme has-dark-theme-text\"><div class=\"wp-block-bu-pullquote-inner\"><figure><\/figure><blockquote><div class=\"container-lockup\"><div class=\"container-icon-outer\"><div class=\"container-icon-inner\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"container-text\"><hr\/><div class=\"quote-sizing\">If someone has a dream about what they want to do, how can I be part of making that happen?<\/div><footer class=\"caption\">Naomi Mann, Associate Dean of Experiential Education<\/footer><hr\/><\/div><\/div><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In her role as executive director of the Civil Litigation and Justice Program, Mann <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/record\/articles\/2024\/expanded-experiential-education-offerings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">helped two clinical faculty develop and launch their own stand-alone programs<\/a>: Clinical Associate Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/madeline-h-meth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Madeline H. Meth<\/a> formed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/experiential-learning\/clinics\/appellate-clinic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Appellate Clinic<\/a>, and Clinical Associate Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/jade-brown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jade Brown<\/a> (\u201916) created the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/experiential-learning\/clinics\/consumer-economic-justice-clinic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Consumer Economic Justice Clinic<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thinking about my role as associate dean as a facilitator of all the great ideas and experience that our clinical faculty have,\u201d she says. \u201cIf someone has a dream about what they want to do, how can I be part of making that happen?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of Mann\u2019s first actions has been to convene a faculty group\u2014including Brown, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/experiential-learning\/clinics\/bu-mit-student-innovations-law-clinic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BU\/MIT Student Innovations Law Clinic<\/a> Lecturers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/ari-lipsitz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ari Lipsitz<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/chris-conley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chris Conley<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/vivian-etter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vivian Etter<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/jef-pearlman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jef Pearlman<\/a>; Corporate Counsel Externship Program Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/cecily-banks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cecily Banks<\/a>; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/academics\/find-degrees-and-programs\/jd-program\/bu-program-on-reproductive-justice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Program on Reproductive Justice<\/a> Executive Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/law\/profile\/sapna-khatri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sapna Khatri<\/a>\u2014to help clinical faculty think through the use of AI with their students. She has also organized a high-level training with practitioners on the issue. \u202fThis training will cover the intersections of AI and attorney-client privilege, the relative benefits of current AI legal tools, and how AI can be leveraged to assist low-income clients.<strong>\u202f<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCourts are actively working out how and when lawyers can use AI while also meeting our ethical duties to our clients.<strong>\u202f<\/strong>There are critical implications for practicing attorneys if we rely on AI in specific ways,\u201d she says. \u201cAt the same time, it\u2019s the future of the practice and has exciting implications for improving access to justice. As the folks who are teaching students to be out in the world, we have a special responsibility to prepare them for current realities.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mann also hopes to increase connections between clinical students and other disciplines and fields across the university. For instance, Maisel helped create a program pairing social work students with law students in criminal and immigration cases; Mann hopes to bring public health students in on cases related to housing law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cForging partnerships within BU is definitely a goal of mine,\u201d Mann says. \u201cI\u2019m really excited about the creative potential of partnering with other schools and of creating new programs that are responsive to the ever-changing needs of law in our society.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dahlstrom says Mann is more than up to the task.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-end-of-article\">\u201cShe brings years of leadership and experience with her,\u201d she says. \u201cI have no doubt she\u2019s going to carry forward the
