#UsToo: feminist artists intersect with #MeToo

By bringing together a multi-generational, diverse group of feminists engaged in cutting-edge work in a variety of disciplines and professions, we hope to initiate a conversation about what inclusive feminism looks like and model a feminist intellectual and cultural collective. A leading assumption here is that aesthetic language—poetic, musical, theatrical—provides an invaluable route to politics, offering a critical stance that is central to the feminist project. Our panelists represent a range of creative methods. Lyndall Gordon is a leading biographer of literary writers including Mary Wollstonecraft, the Brontë sisters, and, most recently, a collection of exemplary women “outsiders.” Patricia Herzog, a philosopher and musician, has written seven librettos featuring women heroines and composed the operatic music for her Resurrection of Lucretia, which will be produced at Boston Conservatory at Berklee in fall 2020. Sophie Seita, in her first year in BU's department of English, is a literary critic specializing in modern and contemporary poetry and is also a performance artist. Crystal Williams is BU’s Associate Provost for Diversity & Inclusion and an esteemed poet. We are delighted to have Angela Onwuachi-Willig, dean of BU's law school, as our moderator.
