Summer Cost of Attendance – Living Expenses

Living expenses for the summer term (room and board, transportation, personal expenses) are pro-rated based on the length of your enrollment. Students attending classes for one summer term (Summer 1 only or Summer 2 only) will only have living expenses for one summer term added to their Cost of Attendance for the summer.

Federal Loan Eligibility

To be eligible to borrow federal loans – and most private loans – students must be enrolled at least half time. For BU, this means at least six (6) credits.

To be eligible for the summer term, you must be enrolled in at least 6 credits for one summer term (e.g. Summer 1 only) or for a total of 6 credits over the entire summer.

Note: The annual borrowing limit for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan is $20,500. In most cases, borrowing the Unsubsidized Loan during the summer term will reduce your eligibility for the Fall/Spring academic year.

If you borrow loans during the summer, please contact the Law Financial Aid Office to make sure that you understand your options.
