BU Summer Pre-law Academy FAQ

BU Summer Pre-Law Academy (BU-SPLA) is a residential four-week summer program focused on countering structural and environmental forces that unevenly tax students underrepresented students.

BU-SPLA will expose undergraduate students to legal cases and advocacy. Students will experience the Socratic classroom, read and brief cases, work in collaborative groups to represent a “client,” and make persuasive arguments. Students will also learn about the law admissions process and will be mentored while working on a personal statement, an optional/diversity statement, and a resume.

Participants will spend the month of June:

• Developing legal skills and learning about law school
• Preparing for the law school application process and the LSAT
• Enjoying social outings in Boston
• Building community with others planning to attend law school

BU-SPLA will run from June 1-June 26, 2026. BU-SPLA will take place on BU Law’s campus in the heart of Boston. Students will live and work on campus during the month of June.

Anyone is welcome to apply, but the focus of the program is for rising college seniors and those who are 1 year away from beginning law school.

The application requires students to complete an application form and provide a statement of interest, resume, and unofficial transcript.

The statement of interest should detail your interests in law, law school, and the BU Summer Pre-Law Academy. Statements are typically 1-2 pages double spaced.

Letters of recommendation are not required and cannot be accepted. Please apply with only the required materials.

The application deadline is March 2, 2026.

We anticipate notifying participants in early April.

There is no cost to apply or attend. Additionally, travel to and from Boston, housing for June, and a meal plan are included in the program. All students who complete the program will receive a $1500 stipend.
