Offered through the school’s renowned Graduate Tax Program, our Master in the Study of Tax Law is a 24-credit program designed to provide foundational tax law training to aspiring and current accountants, auditors, and other business professionals. Building on the foundation of the Graduate Tax Program, program students have access to one of the most comprehensive curricula for advanced tax studies in the country. Enrollment Options
Full Time
Students complete the program in two consecutive semesters, allowing for an accelerated path to degree completion.

Courses & Curriculum
Foundational and Applied Tax Curriculum
The MSLT curriculum provides a comprehensive introduction to US tax law, combining foundational coursework with opportunities to develop practical skills. Students learn how to analyze tax issues, conduct legal research, and communicate effectively in professional contexts.
Degree Requirements
Students complete 24 credits, including required courses, with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.3 and no more than one grade of D. Full time students complete the degree requirements in two consecutive academic semesters, while part time students may take no more than four years.
Required Components
Introduction to Tax Law Module
All students complete a required, non-credit online module prior to matriculation. The module introduces key concepts necessary for success in the program, including:
- The US legal system
- Sources of tax law
- Legal research fundamentals
- Case analysis and legal methods
- Legal writing principles
Legal Research and Writing Requirement
Students complete at least 4 credits in courses focused on legal research and writing (such as TX 982 Tax Seminar or TX 985 Tax Law Research) and produce a substantial written project totaling at least 7,500 words, not including footnotes. It is anticipated that a student will complete this requirement as part of the TX 982 Tax Seminar course.
