Las Abogadas Screening
- Starts: 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 14, 2024
- Ends: 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 14, 2024
In lieu of a bar review on Thursday November 14th, we will be holding an emergency screening of “Las Abogadas,” a film that shows the resilience of immigration attorneys during the Trump era. Below is the trailer and description of the film. We will serve some dinner and desserts. We will also provide local action items. Thursday, November 14th, 5 PM, Room 209. As before, if you need to stop by and grab a free dinner and leave, feel free. All are welcome to take the support they need and can step back if needed as well. Las Abogadas follows a group of immigration attorneys over a multi-year odyssey as the U.S. government under President Trump upends every law meant to protect those fleeing from persecution, violence and war. From setting up a legal clinic in a Volkswagen bus in the middle of 5000 desperate migrants, to forcing border guards to follow the law and accept a blind woman into U.S. custody, to counseling African migrants stuck in Tijuana, to giving legal advice in the brutally hot Mexican sun to families desperate to see American soil — we watch our characters’ surreal journeys to try and help.
