Christopher A. Kenney (’90), John J. Morrissey (’92), and Grace Bacon Garcia (’98) serve as Massachusetts Bar Association officers
The Massachusetts Bar Association’s incoming president, John J. Morrissey (’92) will replace outgoing president, Christopher A. Kenney (’90), both BU Law graduates. Kenney will “pass the gavel” to Morrisey, whose term begins in September. Additionally, Grace Bacon Garcia (’98) will move from the secretary position to become treasurer for a total of three BU Law alumni out of the five Massachusetts Bar Association officers.
Outgoing President Christopher Kenney is completing his year-long term and has ushered in the bar association’s civics-education initiative. The bar’s first-ever “Civics Bee” in February raised over $15,000 for iCivics, which is helping to bolster civics curriculum in high schools across Massachusetts. Chris, a Paul J. Liacos Scholar while at BU Law, has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Boston University School of Law, and in 2012, BU Law honored Kenney with the Silver Shingle Award for outstanding service to the school.
Incoming President John Morrissey has many goals for his upcoming term as president of the statewide bar and is also the current chair of the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers.
Incoming Treasurer Grace Garcia led the Massachusetts Bar Association Law Day civics-related efforts this past year, which included sending lawyers to teach a civics class at high schools in May. She also led their Naturalization Disability Waiver Training (in conjunction with Project Citizenship) in April, which was aimed at helping eligible permanent residents with disabilities apply for citizenship.
