Event Highlights: The LGBT Cuban Revolution
On Tuesday, September 26, the Center for Latin American Studies welcomed Wilfred Labiosa, PhD (CGS ’91, CAS ’93) back to campus for a discussion of his new book, The LGBT Cuban Revolution. The book offers a comprehensive chronology of the LGBT rights movement in Cuba, highlighting the significant milestones, setbacks, and triumphs of this long and arduous journey. It also provides a detailed analysis of the social, cultural, and political factors that have influenced the course of this struggle, giving readers a nuanced understanding of the complexities of the fight for equality.
Labiosa is executive director at Waves Ahead, a non-profit organization in Puerto Rico and in the continental US whose main objective is to support the development and transformation of LGBTQ communities, specifically LGBTQ seniors and homeless. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, he graduated with a PhD from the School of Social Work at Simmons University, an MS in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University, and a BA in Psychology from Boston University.
