Trans/gender expansive theater-maker Eppchez coming to BU (10.26.20 – 10.28.20)

We are thrilled to announce that Philadelphia-based, trans/gender expansive theater-maker Eppchez will be visiting BU for a series of virtual events during the week of October 26. Eppchez has made a film version of their groundbreaking performance Publik Private specifically for BU, the screening of which on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. will kick off a fantastic week of discussions with Eppchez.

Publik Private involves two characters, one who lived in Spain and South America in the 17th century, and another who lived in Rhode Island and New York in the 18th and early 19th centuries.

This is how Eppchez describes the piece:

This bilingual work grapples with the past, bearing witness to gender-non-conforming historical figures, La Monja Alferéz and The Publik Universal Friend. Puppetry and poetics lift up the lives of these trans ancestors in an exhilarating conversation honoring their genders and refusing to look away from their transgressions.

Below, you can see the schedule of events and the links that will enable you to attend these discussions, which will center on topics such as: Recognizing gender diversity in history; Finding the music of character; Creating art in the age of COVID; Making and performing non-binary roles; History, identity, and Latinx performance; Whiteness in queer white identity; and LGBTQ-focused community theater and art.
