Through a combination of seminars, lectures, discussions, and experiential opportunities, students hone their creative and critical thinking skills and apply them to problems of contemporary relevance. Kilachand students complete between 20-30 units of Kilachand coursework reflecting their unique path through the program.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">The First Year<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>The first year introduces students to academic disciplines and interdisciplinary fields and focuses on helping them develop the crucial skills of critical and creative thinking and college-level writing.<\/p>\n<h4>Seminars<\/h4>\n<p>During the first year, students take two seminars\u2014one in the fall term, one in the spring term. First-year seminars engage students in scholarly research and creativity through an intensive look at topics, problems, and questions in various disciplines and interdisciplinary areas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/khc\/academics-community\/curriculum\/first-year-seminar\/\">Kilachand offers an array of seminars each term.<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Writing Studios<\/h4>\n<p>Students hone their skills with textual analysis, research, composition, and revision through small writing studios and one-on-one tutorials with faculty while participating in cultural events that serve as prompts for papers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/khc\/courses\/khc-st-111\/\">KHC ST 111: Writing Studio I\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/khc\/courses\/khc-st-112\/\">KHC ST 112: Writing Studio II<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">The Second and Third Years<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>In the second and third years, students explore fundamental problems facing human society that are best understood in an interdisciplinary context. They also begin practical and creative planning for their senior year Keystone Projects.<\/p>\n<h4>Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Global Challenges<\/h4>\n<p>These team-taught courses invite students to discuss and propose solutions to major global challenges, from climate change to forced displacement to political systems. Opportunities for experiential learning are connected to the curriculum, allowing students to explore the impact of their work outside of the classroom.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/khc\/courses\/khc-hc-301\/\">KHC HC 301: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Global Challenges I<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/khc\/courses\/khc-hc-302\/\">KHC HC 302: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Global Challenges II<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Keystone Proposal Workshop<\/h4>\n<p>Students learn how to design a research and\/or creative project and pitch their ideas to their workshop colleagues as they formulate proposals for the Keystone Projects they will complete in their senior year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/khc\/courses\/khc-hc-451\/\">KHC HC 451: Kilachand Keystone Proposal Workshop<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">The Fourth Year <\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>In the fourth year, Kilachand provides the space and resources for students to engage in their own creative and intellectual pursuits and share their work with a variety of audiences.<\/p>\n<h4>Keystone Project<\/h4>\n<p>Students follow a number of pathways to complete a year-long Keystone Project in their chosen fields under the mentorship of a project advisor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/khc\/for-current-students\/keystone-project\/\">Keystone Project Information and Resources<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Senior Seminars<\/h4>\n<p>In the senior seminars, students and faculty discuss how to live engaged and fulfilling lives within and beyond the university at a transitional moment in students\u2019 personal experiences. The seminars also support students as they complete their Keystone Projects and prepare for the annual Keystone Symposium.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/khc\/courses\/khc-hc-501\/\">KHC HC 501: People in Process: Lives &amp; Works<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/khc\/courses\/khc-hc-502\/\">KHC HC 502: People in Process: Choice &amp; Change &#8211; Writing Intensive<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/khc\/courses\/khc-hc-512\/\">KHC HC512: People in Process: Choice &amp; Change &#8211; Oral\/Signed Communication<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/khc\/courses\/khc-hc-522\/\">KHC HC522: People in Process: Choice &amp; Chance &#8211; Digital\/Multimedia Expression<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Kilachand &amp; The BU Hub<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>All Kilachand courses fulfill BU Hub requirements. The Kilachand curriculum is designed to provide breadth across the Hub areas, allowing Kilachand students to satisfy a majority of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/khc\/for-current-students\/advising\/bu-hub\/\">BU Hub<\/a> through the integration of Kilachand and major coursework.
