Event Description: <\/strong>Are you ready to mend your wardrobe and learn about sustainable fashion? Join us for a fun and creative workshop where we\u2019ll dive into the world of upcycling and mending clothes!<\/span><\/p>\n

With us, you\u2019ll learn essential mending techniques from patching holes to fixing seams, discover innovative ways to upcycle your old clothes, and understand more about the negative social and environmental impacts of fast fashion and why making the switch to slow fashion is crucial for our planet and its people.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bring your own clothes that need mending or upcycling (or Halloween costume!), and we\u2019ll provide the tools and materials to help you get started. If you don\u2019t have any items to bring, we\u2019ll have supplies available for practice (from BU Closet<\/i>).<\/span><\/p>\n

So, whether you’re a DIY enthusiast or a complete beginner, this workshop is for everyone. Come with an open mind and leave with a renewed wardrobe and newfound knowledge about the importance of sustainable fashion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Attendance<\/strong>: (For Kilachand Honors College Students)<\/em> At the event, a QR will be posted for you to check-in. This QR will expire so please complete the check-in form immediately. You must check-in to earn co-curricular attendance credit for this event.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meet the Event Leaders<\/h4>\n

\"\"<\/a>Nora Kempner (she\/her) | Class of 2027 | Costume Design and Production<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nora comes by her love of mending honestly. She learned how to sew from her grandmother at age six, and was raised in an environmentalist household. In 2020, she started making her own clothes, and so people began gifting her sewing-related things, including Kate Sekules\u2019s book Mend: A Refashioning Manual and Manifesto. After reading that book cover to cover, she became hooked, and has been doing her best to extend the life of her clothes ever since. She cannot wait to help you do the same in this workshop!<\/p>\n


\"\"<\/a>Iffany Zou (she\/her) | Class of 2025 | Environmental Analysis and Policy and Economics<\/strong><\/p>\n

Iffany’s passion for sustainable fashion began as a hobby during COVID-19 lockdown, where she learned how to knit, crochet, and sew. These hobbies opened her eyes to the widespread issues of overconsumption and waste in the fashion industry. Since then, she has been an advocate for circular consumption, founding BU Closet, Boston University\u2019s shared closet, to provide free and accessible alternatives to fast fashion. In this workshop, Iffany will help guide you through how to repair and extend the life of your clothes!<\/p>\n
