Event Description: <\/strong>Allegra Goodman will read briefly from her novel in process and answer questions about what it’s like to pursue a career in writing.<\/span><\/p>\n

About Allegra Goodman<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Allegra Goodman\u2019s novels include\u00a0<\/span>The Chalk Artist<\/em>\u00a0(winner of the Massachusetts Book Award),\u00a0<\/span>Intuition, The Cookbook Collector, Paradise Park,\u00a0<\/span><\/em>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Kaaterskill Falls\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(a National Book Award finalist)<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/em>Her fiction has appeared in\u00a0<\/span>The New Yorker, Commentary<\/em>, and\u00a0<\/span>Ploughshares<\/em>\u00a0and has been anthologized in\u00a0<\/span>The O. Henry Awards\u00a0<\/span><\/em>and\u00a0<\/span>Best American Short Stories.\u00a0<\/span><\/em>She has written two collections of short stories,\u00a0<\/span>The Family Markowitz\u00a0<\/span><\/em>and\u00a0<\/span>Total Immersion\u00a0<\/span><\/em>and a novel for younger readers,\u00a0<\/span>The Other Side of the Island.\u00a0<\/span><\/em>Her essays and reviews have appeared in\u00a0<\/span>The New York Times Book Review, The Wall Street Journal, The New Republic, The Boston Globe,\u00a0<\/span><\/em>and\u00a0<\/span>The American Scholar.\u00a0<\/span><\/em>Raised in Honolulu, Goodman studied English and philosophy at Harvard and received a PhD in English literature from Stanford. She is the recipient of a Whiting Writer\u2019s Award, the Salon Award for Fiction, and a fellowship from the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced study. She lives with her family in Cambridge, Mass.\u00a0 Her new novel, SAM<\/i>, will be published in January, 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n
