Event Description: <\/strong><\/span>Join Kilachand seniors as they highlight their Keystone Projects. Support your classmates and learn about the ways in which you can explore your interests through the Keystone process.<\/span> <\/span>Following the presentations we will enjoy our final Kilachand Tea of the semester and there will be an opportunity for Q&A with Kilachand seniors and staff.<\/span><\/p>\n

Attendance<\/strong>: A QR code will be posted at this event, where you can check-in. Please note that you will need to fill out this form in order to earn co-curricular attendance credit for this event. The co-curricular portion of this event will include just the student presentations, which should end around 5pm. Attendance is not required during the Tea and Q&A portion of the event.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/strong>Aesthetic Experiences of \u201cSensed Unities\u201d in Mathematics: A Semi-Kantian Account<\/em><\/p>\n

Taking inspiration from Kant\u2019s claim that aesthetic experiences involve sensing cohesive wholes without subsuming them under concepts, I examine an experience in mathematics that follows this structure and argue that it might be the foundation for many other instances of aesthetic appreciation in mathematics.<\/p>\n

Marissa Carty
<\/strong>Somewhere Among the Wildflowers: Poetry on the Psychology of Well-being<\/em><\/p>\n

I am writing a poetry collection that explores well-being through scientific data and language as well as through more traditionally poetic, subjective experiences.<\/p>\n

Catherine Devlin
<\/strong>Fighting for Peace: The Rose Dabney Forbes Story<\/em><\/p>\n

This thesis will be the first secondary source on twentieth century peace activist Rose Dabney Forbes, reconstructing her life from archival documents.<\/p>\n

Mira Dhakal
<\/strong>Highlighting the Magic of Shimane: Developing an Anime Pitch Deck<\/em><\/p>\n

This project will culminate in a pitch deck for an animated television show in the style of traditional Japanese animation about a young girl who has the ability to see and communicate with spirits, highlighting the folklore, history, and rich cultural traditions of the Shimane Prefecture.<\/p>\n

Audrey Hager
<\/strong>Financial Toxicity and Breast Cancer Drugs<\/em><\/p>\n

To address and reveal the rising burden of healthcare costs on cancer patients, this project uses insurance claims data for oral breast cancer medication to determine the out-of-pocket costs that people are paying for these drugs.<\/p>\n

Meghan Howard
<\/strong>Assessing Interstitial Fibrosis and Tubular Atrophy (IFTA) using Minimally-Invasive Elastic Scattering Spectroscopy as an Indicator of Kidney Health<\/em><\/p>\n

Our group (which includes myself,\u00a0Emily Oros, Ji Young Chung, and Giulia Boccardo) is designing and fabricating a needle tip probe to rapidly and quantitatively assess transplant kidneys.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>An Evaluation of Together We Feel Better: A Mental Health Workbook for Children and Parents<\/em><\/p>\n

This project seeks to analyze the usability, acceptability, and efficacy of Together We Feel Better- a mental health workbook for Palestinian children (ages 6-8) and their families.<\/p>\n

Jackson Moore-Otto
<\/strong>The Power of Dams for Innovation: Using Hydroelectric Facilities to Test the Impact of Density on Idea Formation<\/em><\/p>\n

This project\u00a0aims to add to the literature on urban\u00a0density and innovation by using hydroelectric facilities as a proxy for increased density and patent data as the output.<\/p>\n

Amos Mwaura
<\/strong>Mapping Diabetes Hotspots in Boston<\/em><\/p>\n

This project compares diabetes rates in Boston’s 23 neighborhoods to race\/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and the distribution of grocery stores and fitness centers in each neighborhood with the goal of better understanding\u00a0Boston’s diabetes hotspots.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Is what you see what you get?: Understanding how viewing condomless anal sex in pornography relates to engagement in condomless anal sex among adolescent sexual minority males<\/em><\/p>\n

This project aims to investigate the relations between viewing condomless anal sex in pornography, condom attitudes, and engagement in condomless anal sex among adolescent sexual minority males to understand how sexual behaviors viewed in pornography may be adopted.<\/p>\n

Sawan Patel
<\/strong>A Systems-Level Model of Spatial Episodic Memory\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Synthesizing the last decade of research concerning the identification of the neural circuitry enabling spatial episodic memory in mammals, this project aims to create an agreed-upon and testable model of spatial episodic memory that will be examined under several different simulated circumstances.<\/p>\n

Katherine Sena
<\/strong>Characterization of opioid preference and binge eating differences in two closely related substrains of mice<\/em><\/p>\n

This project investigates the mechanism of a gene associated with differential oxycodone metabolism between two closely related substrains of mice and determines binge eating differences in the same two substrains.<\/p>\n

Gayatri Sundar Rajan
<\/strong>Water Harvesting: Producing Potable Water from Moisture in Air<\/em><\/p>\n

Our project aims to produce potable water from moisture in air as a low-energy, cost-effective, and culturally conscious solution to water scarcity in remote, arid environments.<\/p>\n
