Da jia hao! My name is Sevillana and I am a sophomore at the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Psychology and minoring in Emotional and Behavioral Challenges at Wheelock. While I was born in Alexandria, Virginia, home for me is Shanghai, China, where my family has been living for the past nine years. I am extremely interested in child development, specifically pertaining to how biological and sociocultural markers impact emotional regulation and social learning in infants and young children. I also enjoy learning about Chinese history and speaking Mandarin.
Outside of academics, I love to sing and write music! You can find me performing around campus with Boston University’s premiere a cappella group, In Achord, and you can find our music on Spotify! I also write for BU’s brain sciences journal, The Nerve, and I’m a Care Fellow at BU Hillel. During my free time, I love to explore the city of Boston and eat good food.
Despite being just a sophomore, BU and Kilachand has already become home to me. I am grateful to have a tight-knit and close community within such an expansive research institution—I feel like I get the best of both worlds! Additionally, the program has given me some amazing friends and incredible learning experiences which have pushed me to learn about new topics and fields outside my comfort zone. The most notable seminar I have taken here is “Pursuit of Happiness”, which dove deep into history, religion, psychology, and philosophy. Who knew happiness could be such a profound subject? Truly, Kilachand will grant you incredible learning experiences that push you to think critically and openly. Feel free to reach out with any questions about the program by emailing me.
