International Admissions will continue to support undergraduate students throughout their visa application until they arrive on campus.<\/p>\n<h3>Graduate and Non-Degree Students<\/h3>\n<p>Graduate and Non-Degree Students should submit the required documents to request the I-20 or DS-2019 for student immigration sponsorship to the admissions office through the applicant gateway.\u00a0 Once a student has accepted the offer of admission and deposited (if applicable) and their documentation is complete, the admission department will forward an electronic file to the ISSO for review.<\/p>\n<p>Any student who is not a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident is considered an international student. The ISSO requires an admissions file for every international student enrolling full-time or part-time, regardless of their current immigration status. We review each student\u2019s information to determine whether their current immigration status permits the activities associated with their program at Boston University, including full-time enrollment, on-campus employment, and off-campus academic experiences<\/p>\n<h2>Steps for Graduate and Non-Degree Students<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Apply to your academic program of choice\n<ul>\n<li>Consult program\u2019s website for admissions requirements and application process<\/li>\n<li>Each graduate school or college at BU has its own admissions office<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Accept your offer of admission &amp; pay deposit (if applicable)\n<ul>\n<li>Follow the steps in the links provided to accept your offer, pay deposit (if applicable) and submit your documents through the applicant portal<\/li>\n<li>Required documents include: <a href=\"\/isso\/files\/2026\/05\/ISSO-ISDF-updated-3-22-24.pdf\">International Student Data Form<\/a>, <a href=\"\/isso\/international-students\/required-financial-documentation\/\">financial support documents<\/a> and passport. Additional documentation may be required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Admissions office creates ISSO file\n<ul>\n<li>The admissions office for your program will review your submitted documents and once complete, submit an electronic file to the ISSO to request immigration processing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>ISSO review &amp; immigration processing\n<ul>\n<li>ISSO will review your file and create and if appropriate, create an I-20 or DS-2019 immigration document<\/li>\n<li>If your record is incomplete or additional processing is required, you will be contacted by the ISSO or your admissions office with further instructions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Receiving your I-20 or DS-2019 immigration document\n<ul>\n<li>You will receive an invitation to your BU email address to log into the ISSOPortal with instructions to download your I-20 or DS-2019<\/li>\n<li>Once you have your immigration document, you should <a href=\"\/isso\/resources\/paying-the-sevis-fee\/\">pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee<\/a> at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmjfee.com\/i901fee\/index.htm\">fmjfee.com<\/a> to begin your student visa application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Apply for your student entry visa from the US consular office in your home country\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/isso\/international-students\/student-visa-classifications\/applying-for-a-visa\/\">Review all the ISSO information about the visa application process<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Schedule a visa application appointment and apply for your student entry visa<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Prepare to enter the U.S.\n<ul>\n<li>Review the <a href=\"\/isso\/resources\/entering-the-u-s\/\">ISSO information<\/a> on entering the U.S. in student status<\/li>\n<li>Plan to travel to the U.S. no more than 30 days before the start date on your immigration document.<\/li>\n<li>Be prepared to show your passport, visa, immigration document, and financial documents at the border.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Students Already in the U.S.<\/h2>\n<p>Procedures will be slightly different for students already in the U.S. in student status or in another immigration status.
