Therefore, we require new students to submit documentation demonstrating sufficient financial support for the first academic year of the program (or for the duration of the program if less than one year).<\/p>\n<p>Every year the university publishes an estimate of the tuition, fees, and living expenses to be used in the review of financial documentation before issuing immigration documents.\u00a0 Your immigration document will reflect an estimated figure and will not reflect the exact amount you are billed tuition and fees.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Undergraduate\u00a0students<\/span><\/strong>: <\/em><em>New incoming undergraduate students: Refer to Undergraduate Admissions for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/admissions\/apply\/international\/application-instructions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">documentation for financial support<\/a>. <\/em><em>For program extension and return from a leave of absence: Refer to the Estimate of Expenses for minimum funding requirements for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/isso\/undergraduate-estimate-of-expenses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">undergraduate students<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><i><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Graduate students<\/span><\/strong>: <\/i><i>Refer to the Estimate of Expenses for the minimum funding requirements for programs at the <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/isso\/getting\\-started\\-old\/joining-the-bu-community\/initial-processing\/expenses-crc\/\"><i>Charles River Campus<\/i><\/a><i> and <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/isso\/getting\\-started\\-old\/joining-the-bu-community\/initial-processing\/expenses-med\/\"><i>Medical Campus<\/i><\/a><i>. <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Summer Term students<\/span><\/strong>: <\/i><i>Contact Summer Term at <\/i><a href=\"mailto:sumintl@bu.edu\"><i>sumintl@bu.edu<\/i><\/a><i> or check the <\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/summer\/international-students\/how-to-register.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>How to Register<\/i><\/a><i> section of their website.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>All declarations of financial support must:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Reflect the minimum amount of support in U.S. dollars<\/li>\n<li>Include a date and be no more than one year old from the intended date of enrollment<\/li>\n<li>Be written in English<\/li>\n<li>Reflect funds that are readily available for tuition payments (i.e., checking or savings accounts). Certain investment accounts such as stocks, salary documents, property holdings, etc. do not reflect available funds and will not be accepted<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Students can demonstrate their proof of funding from one or from a few funding sources:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Personal Funds:<\/strong>\u00a0 Funds accounts in the student\u2019s own name<\/li>\n<li><strong>Family Funds:<\/strong>\u00a0 Funds in accounts of any relative of the student<\/li>\n<li><strong>Private Sponsor<\/strong>:\u00a0 Funds in an account of non-relative sponsor, employment related sponsor, or scholarship from an outside organization<\/li>\n<li><strong>Home Government:<\/strong>\u00a0 Funding that comes from the student\u2019s home country<\/li>\n<li><strong>Student Loan:<\/strong> Funding secured by the student from a loan company<\/li>\n<li><strong>Funds from the School:<\/strong>\u00a0 Scholarships or Stipends from Boston University<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>While Boston University will accept scanned copies of financial documents, it is recommended that students secure an original copy to provide to the consular officer during the visa application interview and to an immigration officer at the U.S. Port of Entry (if requested).<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Additional Information<\/h2>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">If the prospective student will be funded by a family member<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<p>The prospective student must submit:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/isso\/files\/pdf\/Sponsor-Cert-Form.pdf\">Sponsorship Certification Form<\/a> or a letter of sponsorship which indicates that the sponsor is willing and able to support the prospective student financially for academic fees and living expenses throughout the duration of study at Boston University and also indicates the relationship of the sponsor to the applicant.<\/li>\n<li>An official bank letter, bank statement or credit reference from a bank stating the availability of the funding to support minimum estimated expenses as indicated on the Estimate of Expenses.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">If the prospective student will be funded by their government, an organization, a company, etc.<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>The sponsor must submit a letter of sponsorship on official letterhead which states:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>The funding is valid specifically for Boston University.<\/li>\n<li>Exactly which expenses will be covered (i.e., academic fees, living expenses, health insurance, financial support for family members, travel, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>The length of the financial support.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">If the prospective student will be funded by a bank loan<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>The prospective student must submit an official letter of certification from the lending institution indicating the specific amount for which they have been approved\/guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">If the prospective student will be funded in a manner not listed above (for example, if they will fund themselves)<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>The prospective student must submit official documentation (a bank letter, bank statement or a credit reference from a bank) indicating the specific amount to support minimum estimate of expenses.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">If a student submits documents for multiple funding sources<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>The sources will be prioritized based on the following hierarchy:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>Boston University funding<\/li>\n<li>Home government sponsorship<\/li>\n<li>Student Loan<\/li>\n<li>Personal Funds<\/li>\n<li>Family Funds<\/li>\n<li>Private Sponsor<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">If your funding sources change significantly (25% or more)<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>You can submit additional funding documentation to ISSO for review and request an updated I-20.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Although regulations only require Boston University to verify one year of financial support, the consular officer at your visa interview may ask you to clarify your funding plan for subsequent years of study.
