ISSO OPT Web Portals

These portals are intended for use by Boston University students on OPT and STEM OPT. The OPT Student Reporting Portal should be used by Boston University students (and recent graduates) who have been recommended or approved for Optional Practical Training (OPT). The STEM OPT Student Reporting Portal is for Boston University graduates working on an OPT extension in a qualifying Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) major field. The Employer Reporting Portal is a reporting tool for employers of Boston University graduates working on STEM OPT.

Under standard OPT, you must submit to the a copy of your Employment Authorization Document (EAD) to the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO). You must also maintain an up-to-date U.S. residential address (“Immigration-U.S” Address), and OPT Employer information (“OPT Employer” address) in the BU Student link.

Under STEM OPT, you must report your new EAD, and maintain an up-to-date U.S. residential address (“Immigration-U.S” Address) and OPT Employer information (“OPT Employer” address) in the BU Student Link. In addition, as a student on STEM OPT you and your STEM OPT employer are required to report aspects of the I-983 STEM OPT Training Plan and changes to your employment to a Designated School Official (DSO) for the school that recommended STEM OPT. At Boston University, your DSO is the International Student Advisor for your school or college.

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) has launched an SEVP Portal to assist student in reporting U.S. residential and mailing address, phone number and OPT employer. Use of the SEVP Portal is optional and does not include all fields required for reporting. If you opt to set up an account in the SEVP Portal, you must also update your U.S. residential address and OPT employer address in the BU Student Link and complete other reporting through this ISSO OPT Portal.
