Klapperich"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Catherine_M._Klapperich\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Catherine Klapperich<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is Professor of Biomedical Engineering. She is the Scientific Director of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.damplab.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DAMP Lab<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at BU. She was the Founding Director of the BU Precision Diagnostics Center, and currently serves as its Associate Director.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Professor Klapperich holds appointments in the Division of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In 2014, she was elected a Fellow of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/aimbe.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2018 a Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society, and a fellow of the AAAS in 2020. She was the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/me\/2014\/04\/08\/klapperich-selected-as-first-dorf-ebner-distinguished-faculty-fellow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dorf-Ebner Distinguished Faculty Fellow <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from 2014-2019. In 2020 she won the Department of Biomedical Engineering Teaching Award, and she won the College of Engineering Teaching Award in 2021. Also in 2021, she won a special College of Engineering Award for Societal Engineering for her work building and running the Boston University Clinical Testing Lab during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Klapperich earned her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2000 from the University of California, Berkeley advised by Drs. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/bioeng.berkeley.edu\/cv\/lpruitt.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lisa Pruitt <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.me.berkeley.edu\/faculty\/komvopoulos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyriakos Komvopoulos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; her S.M. in Engineering Sciences from Harvard University; and her B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University.
