He is an urban planner, sociologist, filmmaker, and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Initiative on Cities at Boston University (working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ioc\/profile\/loretta-lees\/\">Loretta Lees<\/a>). Kenton received the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/urbanaffairsassociation.org\/2024\/02\/13\/emerging-activist-scholar-award-2024\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2024 Janet Smith Emerging Activist Scholar Research Award<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the Urban Affairs Association.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He recently completed his PhD at UCLA, where he taught in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/communityengagement.ucla.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Center for Community Engagement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Community Scholars\/Collaborative (in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/labor.ucla.edu\/do-legislative-bills-build-housing\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2018<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cacltnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/De-Commodifying-Housing-During-COVID-19.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2020<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and in Germany as a guest instructor and researcher at Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin and the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kenton\u2019s dissertation on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/escholarship.org\/uc\/item\/4r383619\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Politics of Housing<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> examined four processes across the United States and Germany between 2008-2023: struggles over ideas, struggles to collaboratively build new housing models, struggles to create offensive policy change, and struggles to influence new institutions in federal politics (see article in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/02673037.2022.2124236\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Housing Studies<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is a former Managing Editor of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/escholarship.org\/uc\/uclaspa_criticalplanning\/23\/0\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Critical Planning Journal<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, recently co-edited a Special Issue on housing movements and care\u00a0for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/anti.13012\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antipode: A Radical Journal of Geography<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and one forthcoming on housing movements and racial capitalism for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Environment Planning C<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kenton\u2019s films have won multiple awards and been featured by The Antipode Foundation (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2CS627aKrJI\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geographies of Racial Capitalism with Ruth Wilson Gilmore<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.interfacejournal.net\/interface-volume-13-issue-2\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interface: a journal for and about social movements<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (forthcoming, Why Abolition Now?).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has also published in Shelterforce, Jacobin, Progressive City, Architectural Theory Review, Design Philosophy Papers, and Horizonte: Zeitschrift f\u00fcr Architekturdiskurs, among other venues. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can follow his work at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentoncard.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kentoncard.com<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":19783,"template":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ioc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/16299"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ioc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ioc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/profile"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ioc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/19783"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ioc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/16299\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":17559,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ioc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/16299\/revisions\/17559"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ioc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=16299"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
