Tom Ogorzalek, Assistant Professor of Political Science and Urban Studies at Northwestern University, shares his new book: The Cities on the Hill: How Urban Institutions Transformed National Politics. The book discusses how the trajectory of contemporary partisan politics began with the New Deal. Historically, both rural and urban America were rife with racial conflict, but beginning in the 1930’s city leaders unified in their approach to national politics and support of civil rights.
