2025 Initiative on Cities City of Boston Summer Internship Applications Now Open

The IOC is excited to offer three paid undergraduate internship opportunities this summer. Interns will work 35 hours weekly in Boston’s City Hall in one of the three roles listed below.

  • Equity & Inclusion Cabinet [Free housing in partnership with the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground]: The intern will advance Boston’s racial equity policy priorities, foster community engagement efforts, and support data-driven policy recommendations. This work will include research, data gathering from the community, stakeholder engagement, and policy writing.
  • Office of Climate Resilience [Housing stipend included]: This intern will spend the summer supporting the City of Boston’s resiliency efforts. This year, the intern will work on communications and graphic design to support the office’s work adapting and preparing for the impacts of climate change.
  • Planning Advisory Council [Housing stipend included]: This new undergraduate summer internship will award one BU undergraduate student the opportunity to spend the summer working at Boston City Hall with the Planning Advisory Council. This dynamic role will touch on many areas of government and is a good fit for a student who is eager to learn about how local government can work more effectively across policy and implementation silos to address challenges and pursue equity in the built environment.

To qualify, applicants must be in good standing with Boston University and enrolled as full-time undergraduate students in the Spring and Fall 2025 semesters.

Applications are due on Monday, March 10, 2025
