{"id":7276,"date":"2022-05-05T14:50:05","date_gmt":"2022-05-05T18:50:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/?p=7276"},"modified":"2024-07-24T13:38:01","modified_gmt":"2024-07-24T17:38:01","slug":"computer-science-for-all-with-nj-umoh-student-innovator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/computer-science-for-all-with-nj-umoh-student-innovator\/","title":{"rendered":"Computer Science for All with NJ Umoh (CAS&#8217;23)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Nsikan Umoh, aka NJ<\/strong>,\u00a0 is <span>a junior majoring in computer science at the College of Arts and Sciences. <\/span>His venture, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compscilib.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CompSciLib<\/a>, is an all-in-one platform for computer science and technology tools, helping ease the process of learning Computer Science for students as well as professionals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CompSciLib also won third place and $6k at our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/announcing-the-winners-of-the-2022-new-venture-competition\/\">#NewVentureCompetition finale in April!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-size: 1.4rem;\"><p>\u201cAs a computer science major myself, I know how hard it is as a subject, so I tried to become a tutor to help people. However, I realized I still couldn\u2019t help as many people as I wanted to. So, making an Ed-tech platform that can help as many people as possible is what inspired me to get CompSciLib up and running.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring this process, the Build Lab helped me immensely. There are so many great advisors at the BUild Lab. I worked directly with Tom Samph since he has an Ed-tech background. <strong>There are also so many programs such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/signature-programs\/new-venture-competition\/\">New Venture Competition<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/signature-programs\/freshmen-fellowship\/\">First Year Innovation Fellowship<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/innovate\/build-your-idea\/pathway\/\">Innovation Pathway<\/a> that have allowed students like me to get their dreams up and running.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When asked to give some advice to our fellow terriers who are thinking about starting an idea, NJ advised:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-size: 1.4rem;\"><p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have to be a software engineer to get your startup up and running.
