Learn more about the five supported projects below.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"border-2\" \/>\n<h4><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-02-at-3.23.53-PM-636x618.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"389\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-02-at-3.23.53-PM-636x618.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-02-at-3.23.53-PM-768x746.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-02-at-3.23.53-PM-1024x995.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-02-at-3.23.53-PM.png 1262w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>Training Materials for Creative Community Projects<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&#8220;[As artists],\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we spend so much time practicing our craft that we forget to look around and see the type of impact we have\u2013or don&#8217;t have!\u2013on the community&#8221; said Heather Havens (CFA&#8217;20). &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being innovative means being willing to look at our craft in new ways that go outside of the College of Fine Arts and into the lives of those surrounding us.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This summer, project partners Heather Havens and Anna Harris (CFA&#8217;20) will use their seed grant to develop training materials for music students interested in developing community-based projects.<\/p>\n<p>Haven says the pair will &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">work with a mentor over the Summer to develop a mission, vision, and action plan for our Residency at the Medical Center next year.&#8221; Ultimately, they will use this knowledge to host a workshop for fellow student musicians who are &#8220;looking to engage in the community and think in entrepreneurial ways.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Next year, Havens and Harris will continue to use these tools when they begin a residency at Boston Medical Center by using music as a &#8220;source of healing, connection, and spirit <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by bringing classical instruments to spaces that, while unexpected, may benefit the most from live music,\u00a0<\/span>&#8221; said Havens.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"border-2\" \/>\n<h4><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_5103-636x477.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_5103-636x477.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_5103-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_5103-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_5103.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>Sense of Space Theatrical Project<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span>Led by Corianna Moffatt (MFA&#8217;19), Sense of Space is a theatrical project that creates a conversation with actors and people within public spaces at the Boston Medical Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Moffatt said that the seed grant allowed them<span>\u00a0&#8220;to buy supplies for our interactive artistic projects and to pay the local artists that worked with us as we developed our performances for Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Boston Health Care for the Homeless (BHCHP).&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>&#8220;For example, we were able to buy a Polaroid camera which we handed to people at BHCHP, inviting them to take photos of things that inspired them.\u00a0 They had the choice to keep the photos or leave them with us for an exhibition, which took place in March. Most people wanted photos with their friends or of themselves to give to loved ones, a beautiful reminder of the inspiration we can find in one another,&#8221; said Moffatt.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Sense of Space has opened the door for students in the School of Theatre to explore the possibilities and benefits of creating art in conversation with Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Boston Health Care for the Homeless (BHCHP) through Arts | Lab at the Med Campus. Placing a large emphasis on design and production, installation, and performance art, the project is an immersive experience that tackles one\u2019s definition\u00a0<\/span>of identity.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;As an artist, innovation means sharing creative agency within a community. Art can have such a precious and untouchable\u00a0<\/span>connotation in many mediums when being observed from the outside, and to innovate is to augment this relationship, and let one&#8217;s participation in a work give them ownership of their experience and growth,&#8221; said Sean\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perreira<\/span> (CFA&#8217;19).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/Unknown-636x477.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"wp-image-3195 alignright\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/Unknown-636x477.jpeg 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/Unknown-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/Unknown-1024x768.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The team behind STAMP used the grant to &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">get down to more detail and achieve greater complexities in our\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">technical endeavors, such as focused sound design, specific interactive materials for installation pieces, and unified costume.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The performance debuted in March 2019, but the team hopes to remount the project as a pop-up gallery experience with a greater emphasis on dance, participation, and design.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>The team includes\u00a0<\/em><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grace Hill (CFA&#8217;19),\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sean Perreira (CFA&#8217;19),\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hannah Solomon (CFA&#8217;19),\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Becca Sundberg (CFA&#8217;19), and\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Claudia Watanabe (CFA&#8217;19).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_5920-636x636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" class=\"wp-image-3193 alignleft\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_5920-636x636.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_5920-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_5920-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/innovate\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_5920.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>Something Else: A Love Cycle\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To the student team behind the musical, &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">innovation means implementing action to actualize inclusion, both in whose stories are being told, and who is able to be a part of the experience. It means making sure we commit to being truthful and practice sustainable ways of artmaking.&#8221; And they&#8217;re doing just that with their original musical including themes of\u00a0queer, multiracial, multiethnic and multicultural stories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sarah Shin (CFA&#8217;19) said that the seed grant will make it possible to &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">record our original music and make CDs in addition to supporting our technological needs, and connect with Zumix, a non-profit dedicated to empowering young artists through music.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The team has been working on the project since September 2018 and will debut the show on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stamp2019.com\/spring-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 5, 7, and 8<\/a>. Beyond their BU performances, the group plans to submit the show to theatre festivals across the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the process, we avoided seeking an agenda or making a socio-political statement, but wanted to create an experience that allowed us to exist as our full, authentic selves; with a theatre canon that has centered most stories on cis-gender straight white men, our work naturally breaks the norm,&#8221; said Shin. &#8220;Since our musical is a series of vignettes, we\u2019ve played around with the idea that some of these scenes could have their own full show, so that would be exciting to explore.
